Nobody seems to be able to help me locate the function of a fuse box in my 1976 230.
There are two small fuse boxes holding 2 fuses each, located on the driver's side between the battery and the main fuse box. I'm having a problem with the front of the two, as the furthest left fuse keeps blowing. If anyone has the electrical info on this, please let me know. Thanks, AARON ROCHARD 1976 230.4 |

One of the little fuse boxes is for a/c compressor & aux fans. Will have to look at work for wiring on this old of car as BRAIN doesn't remember.

Super, I just wanted to confirm my suspicions. I've been hearing a loud screeching noise that starts around when the blower fan should be kicking in. The front fuse box (as I've mentioned)keeps blowing, so I feel it's fan related.
Is there any common thing in these cars that tends to go first ? Thanks, AARON |

Yes, just replaced the little fuse box and that particular fuse blew again. (a 25W fuse) so it seems like something pretty serious. Can anyone help me ???

quote: Find the thermostat for the fans, disconnect and put a wire jumpering the loom [i.e as if the thermostat was on]. Disconnect the fans. [at fan end of loom] Turn on, if fuse blows, its prob a loom fault. If not, turn off, reconnect fan, turn on - if fuse blows, fan motor is ceasing [if 2 fans, do it one by one] Careful fans dont chop your fingers off, be aware that fan cct may be powered even with engine off on some cars [so fans can run on after engine off [vw's do this]] Cheers R |

ON this car these aux fuse boxes can be for any optional equiptment. ie; a/c, sliding roof, heated seats, aux fan, radio, & more. What color wiring goes to both sides of the fuse that keeps blowing?? The highest reting for any of these fuses on US cars is 16A, not 25A.

Actually, I believe the wire going to the fuse that keeps blowing is black. The other one that doesn't blow is red.
Hope this helps. AARON 1976 230.4 |

The only listed consumer for the 2.5mm black wire is the electric sunroof! It may share fuse with heated rear window, in that case it would be 25A.

Possibly that could be the other aux fuse box contents, because I havent had any problems with the sliding roof, although the rear defrost hasn't worked at all, since I bought the car, possibly the relay, (but that's another issue) This fuse is in the aux fusebox closest to the battery and furthest away (of the two) from the main fuse box.

I was just speaking to someone on another Mercedes info group and they suggested that it could be something as simple as changing my belts. Could the belts potentially cause such a problem ? It has been since October.
Thanks again, AARON ROCHARD 1976 230.4 |
