miss firing, unstable idle and exhaust note
I everyone...i've checked the message board for some direction. The problem with my 92, 400e with the m119 motor is that at idle and warmed up, it is stumbling and finally on my way home the car died on me. It would not restart...turns over fine but will not ignite. also when trying to start it sounds like it is missing. The exhaust not is not steady or regular sounding. step on the gas and no real power(seat of the pants feel). So...I am going to look at tomorrow and check it out again.
Anyways any experience with this kind of problem and solution would be helpful. |

First, check your ignition system (plugs, caps & rotors, wires/tips)...you could just need something "cheap".
Then, if that yields no results, do a search for "wiring harness". Once you get the results, sift through them. I'm going to guess that within a few days, you might be under the hood, looking at some wiring harnesses really close. Oh, and there is another device, that is expensive and hard to get to...some sort of throttle position sensor. I hear that they can mess things up as well. -hope this helps

the list of possibilities may be long. just bite the bullet
for 1.5-2 hrs. labor cost and get your local mb dealership diagnose the problem, then make a decision as to where to get repairs. good luck!

thanks...
well to everyone who sent me an answer... thanks ... now guess what... it started up today and but as larry said it was time to check under the hood with the air filter off. I didn't have alot of time to rumege under the hood, but I have to agree with Larry. Checking plugs, wires and throttle positioner. I also was looking for vacuum leaks. Anyways superficial for now. still too cold to start tearing(disassembling) things. I tried something different though. I took the air filter assembly off and with the mass air exposed slowly put my hand over the opening just to choke off the supply. I was surprised how little coverage it took for the engine to die. Actually i don't have a vacuum gauge to check how well the engine sucks but i was surprised how little it felt on my hand. I didn't physically but my hand on top of the intake manifold to cover the intake.
so...with all that said...is there not a computer I can use for the W124-M119 setup to figure out codes??? and if so how much and where??? |

spark plugs....first thing to check!!!
so...I had stumbling loss of power...erratic rpm at idle...again thanks for all the good ideas where to start and look.
You cant see the plugs I pulled ... but they were poor condition no wonder I had some problems. replaced them with champion copper plus everything back to normal |
