Occasionally I get this click click click click noise coming from my front right area of my '85 190E 2.3. Is this serious damage that can be lurking? Any ideas or replies would greatly help. Thanks in advance!

I am not really sure on this, but right before the alternator on my wife's Caddy went, there was a distintive clicking sound.

Just had a similar problem in my '92 300E. My problem was noisy lifters. While they were fixing that they changed seals and small misc. stuff. Oil consumption is 0 now on a car with 219000 miles. I recommend if the noise is coming from the valve cover area that you take it to a good tech and have the lifters replaced. Don't want to go too long that way.

Is it a consistant tapping or anintermittent Clicking? Consistent tapping could be bad or lose lifter, worn cam or rocker arm. If it is the Clicking it could be a relay going bad or something that the relay controls going bad. One of these things: could be a fuel pump relay and that will stop the car if it fails. Could be many things.
