i have 86 190e 2.3-16. i father just had the whole a/c system replaced basically. (compressor, dryer, pushbutton, all hoses) now it seems that hot air comes from the center vents as cold air comes from the side vents or vice versa. it feels like both hot and cold air are trying to come out of the center vent at once? anyone with info please help!

Not really sure, but check the monovalve for heater. If open or malfunctioning, will produce the situation you describe.

Your 86 190e 2.3 has heater valve control by vacuum, under front winshield rignt side next to the battery cover by plastic screen,I'll check for vacuum leaks, special the one under battrey (red color vacuum line) good luck.
