camshaft oil seal replacement

I have a 1994 sl500 and I noticed that it was leaking oil through the back of the rotor. I tecnician told me that the camshaft oil seals had to replaced. I looked it up in the DIY web page and there they mention a shop tool to replace the oil seals. I need to know if this tool is essential to replace these seals and if I can remove and replace seals by just removing the distributor cap, rotor, etc. I posted this question on the SL FORUM, but I have not received enough info to complete my repair. If anyone can guide me through the step by step removal and replacement of the seals, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, PEP
