300TE rear window regulator

Gentlemen,

I need some help diagnosing a window electrical problem. On my 88 TE the left rear window worked intermittently and has now stopped working altogether. I suspected broken wiring and/or a bad motor/regulator. All other windows worked from both the console and the door switches. At one point the console switch began to blow the fuse (G or H) resulting in the front right window not working (I assumed a bad switch or short in the wiring). I am I have done the following:

Swapped rear door switches, both work in operable Rear Right door.

Replace “bad” Rear Left console switch with Front Left switch - blew the opposite FL/RR fuse. Purchase new switch from Performance; same result (confused now).

Removed Door panel and Pillar Cover and spliced all new wire to the door switch. (checked continuity on all spliced wiring, good). Original wiring was broken & cracked. New switch from Performance still blows fuse G or H (depending on location). I assume new switch is bad.

Buy another switch from Fastlane – New switch does NOT blow fuses and works in all locations but rear left & right front. More confusion (fuses are both good)

Checked power to both rear door switch sockets with meter. Results are the same on both doors; 12V @ pins 7 & 3, no power @ 1,2,4, & 58. No power @ pin 3 when corresponding console switch is depressed for either door.

I applied 12V to window motor, (black & green wire from door socket) and nothing.

I am 90% sure I have a bad regulator/motor (all one piece in the TE); however my confusion comes in with the front right window not working. I went almost a year with the left rear window inoperable but the front right working. Can a bad regulator in the left rear door cause the front right to be inoperable without the fuse being bad? Could this be a problem with the power window relay? I have limited experience with diagnosing electrical problems and generally I don’t like to just throw parts at a problem without a convincing diagnosis, in this case about $200.00 for the regulator.

By the way are there any tips for regulator installation on the TE? My window is in the up position, is R&R straight forward? I assume I have to tape the window up to keep it from falling, correct?

Sorry for the long & possibly confusing post.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Ed C.
