94 E320 check engine code 6

One week ago, car would crank, fire but not start unless gas pedal depressed, then would stall out if foot removed unless allowed to warm up 30 seconds then would idle at 500 RPM. Later, check engine light comes on. (code 6) Car once warm runs and drives fine, I notice when warm and in park, RPM is around 1100 (too high). Mechanic wants to replace throttle body ($1300) and maybe computer. Engine wiring harness has been replaced. What's going on? I can't believe that this has to be a $1300-$2500 repair. Car just passed emissions with flying colors 3 weeks ago.

Code 6 refers to an electronic throttle actuator problem, & w/o ASR the part lists for $1360. Sounds like you are headed in the correct & $$$$$$ path. MB part number 000-141-57-25 is the correct part for a NON-ASR engine.

The good old . . .

electronic throttle actuator (ETA) is probably at fault.

Check my web page (click the "www" icon below) and select Menu#24 to see what happens. My car is different than yours but the ETA gives the same symptoms. The LH mode forces the car to idle at 1000rpm.

The good news is you can do it yourself if you have a will to! Good luck.

Great replies, good useful information, I bought a used ATR at Potomic, came of a good running car, will have it installed on Monday then will post results. Hope I did the right thing taking a chance on a used part ($450). Keeping my fingers crossed.

Removed old throttle body valve and cut into cable, there was no insulatin on any of the wires, they were bare and touching! Nice design!

Installed replacement throttle body valve, reset codes and everything appears to be back to normal. Car starts without touching gas pedal and warm idle is at 700 RPM (where it belongs) Cruse also works.

Thanks all for your information and help!
