I was informed I need the following work in my car (1994 E 420):
1)Car has alternator/starter harness exposed bare wires, could cause electrical fire.(How could this happened?, can they repair only the exposed wires?, they tell me the car needs to be totally re-wired) 2)Transmission cool lines leaking.(Is this a major repair?) 3)Shifter bushings one is worn, other is missing.(What are shifter bushings?, where are they located? how many are there? how can you worn one and loose the other?) Please let me know if this is an expensive repair,I would very much appreciate any comments regarding this matter. Thank you. Hernan [This message has been edited by hescobar (edited 08-19-2000).] |

I will get a second opinion, I hope to have better knowledge of how to solve the problem and what kind of repair this may be, before I get the second opinion.

I have seen the very common failures on 124's for a long time. The wiring harness should be covered by the dealer up to about 100k miles.
The other things are minor cost wise and should be done soon. PS if your dealer heres you scream you have a better chance of a free harness. I know they have replaced about 100million of the engine harnesses here in Atlanta. ------------------ Benzmac: Donnie Drummonds 1991 GMC Syclone ASE CERTIFIED MASTER AUTO TECHNICIAN SERVICE MANAGER FOR 14 BAY FACILITY MERCEDES SPECIALIST 8 YRS PARTNER IN MERCEDESSHOP.COM |

Thank you for your reply and information; I will contact the dealer, I hope to get the wiring harness cover by them.
I am sorry to learn about your accident. Best regards, Hernan |
