Vibration Damper

I have 1989 190 D 2.5 Manual gearbox, The flexi coupling needed to be changed also vibration damper had broken up, I was able to buy the flexi coupling but was told that the vibration damper was not sold as a seperate part and I would have to buy the front section of the Prop shaft which seemed a bit stange as the vibration damper bolts to the flexi drive also told to throw away damper won't stop the car from running I have looked the Flexi drive part numbe up same one fits the 2.0 litre turbo Can anyone advise getting a lot of vibration since discarding Damper

Thanks in advance Vince

From recent research and info from MB Dealer, on some models, the vibration damper was fitted to front section of prop together with flexdisk, and subsequently balanced as a complete unit.
Later production doesn't have this damper at all.
If you discarded the damper, you'd possibly need to have the whole prop rebalanced?

I'm presently rebuilding a C220 prop, see thread "centering bush removal " on this board. Please send Personal Message, if you'd like to chat on this topic.

I can't speak for the 201 chassis, but I would be surprised if it is different than the ones with which I have experience.

The rubber damper has nothing to do with the balance of the shaft. At first examination it may very well look as if it's molded to the shaft but this is not the case. In fact, many times it is removed permanently with no ill effects.

On the 124 it is easy to remove and replace, but if you do you must see that the marks are aligned properly. There is a knot on the front flange that matches up with an arrow on the damper.

Good luck,
