help with power window problem 124
Today the driver side front power window in my '87 300E stopped working -- when I push the down buttom, the window goes down about 1/4 inch and then it stops and makes a loud, repeated ratcheting sound but won't budge. I can make it go back up to the top but it will do the same thing when I try to make it go back down. Any ideas on what this is? I will try to fix it this weekend. Thanks for any help.

It is probably the window regulator!
The good new is the motor is working and they come separate. The only way to find out for sure is to remove the door skin.

Go hunting, I think you'll find a few short teeth on the regulator.

Yep, I had the same problem.
The old regulator lost about 4-5 teeth. A new regulator solved it.

you guys were right
I removed the door panel and saw the regulator was missing several teeth. I got the window to start working again by pushing down on the regulator arms, and now the window is functioning ok for the time being. I'm going to replace the regulator soon. Thanks for the tips.
