Help! W210 wont start!!

Hi, I have a 1996 E230.

The car just doesn't want to start. There is no check engine warning. It used to stall once in a while but now, it just does not want to start at all.

The starter is turning fine and the battery is strong but nothing is happening when I turn the key. I am afraid that I might exhaust the battery.

What will I do? Mechanics here may change a lot of parts that are not really the culprit.

Can I have a MB enthusiast feedback on possible damage?

Turn the ignition key on & listen ( by the trunk ), if you can hear the fuelpump running.
We'll take it from there.

Hi,
Can I try removing the rear seats? Is this where the fuel pump is? How does it sound? I never noticed any sound.
Aside from the fuel pump, what is another possible cause? I know there are a lot of possible causes.
1) Immobilizer fault
2) Starter connections fault?
3) Dirty gasoline and filter? water in tank?
4) Fuel injection problems?

Sorry for being naive. This is my first electronic benz. My dad used to own a W123 and it did not have any problems at all.

Thanks.

If engine spins, doesnt cough, has fuel & spark it's time to check compression. May be broken timing chain in which case continung to attempt to start is not helping.

Timing chain breaks or junps don't generally go "downhill" over time. Stalling, then finally quitting, sounds more like something that was breaking, and is now broken.

My bets would be, without reading codes or using diagnosis gear:

1. Fuel pump or relay.
2. Fuel filter is clogged.
3. Tune up parts like plugs, wires, or coils.

Without being able to find if there is fuel pressure or spark, it's tough to make a call...

Thanks guys. I will have the car towed in a reputable Mb shop.

I hope its just a broken pump.

Thanks a lot. Every help is greatly appreciated.

Problem Solved!!

I got a Menz mechanic who did a home service. ( I wouldn't want to tow the car) He just tapped the fuel pump underneath the car and.........Surprise!.... The car miraculously started!!!

You have to tap the old pump a bit to make it start spinning again.

It was just a Broken pump. Mine was still the original Bosch brand. got a Pierburg brand for $135 and $9 for the labor service.

Now the car is running perfectly
