Shell Oil and Mercedes
I changed the oil on the weekend. For difference I have decided to put Shell High Mileage Oil SH/SJ 10W-40 and Bosch oil filter. Before it was Mobil High Mileage Oil SH/SJ 10W-40 and OEM oil filter.
I had an episode of raising the engine temperature today in the morning traffic on the low speed. It did not happen before. The oil pressure is good. I do not have a climate control unit in my car right now. To prevent hot air to blow in the car I removed a fuse for the fan that located nearby a big fuse box. A hot air still comes in but not so intense as it was before. Could be Shell Oil not the best chose for Mercedes?

I am not sure of the problem you are describing. You say you changed to Shell from Mobil 1 and when the engine got hot that the oil pressure was good. I don't see what the problem is.
And what do you mean that you pulled a fuse for the fan?

Your heating problem, fan problem, hot air problems have nothing to do with your oil change. You are using the same grade of oil, it has absolutely nothing to do with the heat.
Coincidence???, maybe, but don,t blame the oil. JackD |

Put the fuse back and see.

Is it Ok if the oil pressure about 2 when I drive less then 10mph? On the higher speed the pressure is 3.
But in a slow traffic can it be the reason why the engine gets hotter?

Oil pressure at 2 bars at low RPM is totally normal. This is not a problem. It should get back to 3bars at higher RPM,
High engine temperature has nothing to do with your oil or your 2bars oil pressure. If you engine overheats (over 120deg),something is wrong with your coolant system. Possible causes: Faulty thermostat, faulty coolant reservoir cap, blocked radiator, collapsed hoses, defective cooling fans, defective temperature sensor/gauge,and others. jackD |

The second you hit the gas that sucker should be on 3. If your foot is off the gas and you are idle it can go as low as 1.

Check your temperature sender. It may need replacement. Your fan should kicks in once the temperature sender reached a predetermined temperature setting.

I still don't understand what the problem is. Simple physics dictates that there is less airflow and higher temps at lower speeds. Can you please specifically state what problem you think you are having with your vehicle? High engine temp, if so what temperature?
