W202 Mis-Fire 1 & 4 Help please

Hello,

I have a 1996 C280 with 103k.

While driving the check engine light came on and major loss of power. Took it to the dealer for check....said #1 and #4 plugs were mis-firing.

Changed out plugs with new Bosch Platimun 4's.

Still ahve the hesitation after 5 minute warm up. Feels like it's going to run out of gas. Must be running on 4 cylinders only.

Ignition Wire set was new last year from this site.

Any ideas of what to try? Should I try a new set of plug wires or boots?

Car guy said to start the engine at night and check to see if wires are arching.....is this a safe test?

What else can I look for?
Thanks

Why did they put Bosch Platinum plugs in? That is not the recommended plug for that car. The corect copper core Bosch plug is F8DC4 with a .8mm gap.

I understand the question about the plugs, but they are just more improved with better spark.....that is not the issue that is at hand as the old plugs were the F8DC4...

Thanks

w202misfire 1 and 2

I did my 280 1995 this weekend, had a misfire which would go away with a restart, After being assured that it was the coil boots or the engine harness,it turned out to be a coil so i changed all three. With my discount at the local dealer they were $55.00@.
The primary resistance both new and old was 0.9-1.00 ohm on a dvm was not able to get a reading on the secondary sides.
Check your coils before spending a lot more money. The coil boots and wires should have a 2000k ohms resistance, check those also and replace if insulation is broken or show signs of arcing.
Let me know of your success.
