M119 P/S pumps ?

There are 2 pumps from MB for the M119 .... the Vickers and the ZF...what is the difference and any ideas why is the re-seal kit for the Vickers twice as much as the ZF one ? Pump is for a car with SLS if that matters. TIA

Great question...

I'm going to sit back for answers, as I have a P/S leak that needs to be taken care of in my M119. Unfortunately, this is just one of those jobs that I don't think I can tackle myself... although I'm all ears if anyone thinks it's possible.

Alldata has the replacement job estimated at 5.5 hours. Does it really take that long? I was thinking about picking up a used pump, rebuilding it myself, then having someone replace it, as a new pump is $300-400 + $80 core.

It doesn't look too bad a job to DIY , at least on my 500E. I'm figuring 1/2 day with my skills....or lack thereof.

Pretty sure all I need is the re-seal kit but at 142K...wouldn't hurt to put in a new one since I plan to keep the car a long, long time.

The cheapest price I can find new is about $550 for both pumps from a dealer....mind sharing where you found the cheaper prices? Or does your W124 not have the SLS? Bet that is where the difference is...

What is SLS? What do you mean by "both pumps"?

You can find p/s pumps from any online Worldpac dealer like here at fastlane... although I don't see one listed specifically for a 92 500E.

SLS = self-leveling system in the rear...

Both pumps meaning both the Vickers and the ZF are about $550 ....p/s pumps are different for cars with the SLS.

Actually, I'm really not sure if I have SLS or not. Is there a way to tell?

The reason the labor is 5.5 hours is for the R&R of the pump. The rebuild is simple.
