the idle speed on this m103 does not bother me normally, but now when it gets around 100 degrees,the oil pressure drops to one bar. most of the time it's 1.25 bar
so my question is what should idle be in drive?i get 500rpm most of the time, 1.25 bar oil pressure
when the pressure drops to 1 bar the idle is 480 rpm.
idle is smooth always
should the idle be higher?

Idling in neutral (700) my engine usually runs 1.5 bar. With the lower idle speed of an auto in drive the pressure will be lower, and it will be lower in very hot weather.

The owner's manual says idle oil pressure as low as 0.3 bar is okay.

Recommend you use 20W-50 year round in San Diego.

normal idle on 300SE when fully warm in drive on auto is 600±50 rpm and anything down to .3 bar according to my manual is considered normal

thanks for the reply's. should i try and raise the idle a little,maybe clean the idle control valve. when it drops to 480 rpm the idle has a wierd vibration. with 212k miles maybe the injectors are getting dirty. not real worried but this is the last issue with the car.
