rebuilding rear diff with ASD

Hi all

I ahave a 1992 300SD and the diff is howling, it has been getting worse over the past coupls of weeks. fluid is freash and topped offed. Going to replace all the bearingsm seals etc. any special thing to watch out for with the ASD? ( anti Slip Diff) Locking.

Is it ASD (hydraulically controlled lock up)? If so, I would be very mindful of all the o-rings that are utilized, you wouldn't want to damage one of those during reassembly. Side bearings may be straight forward, however pinion bearings = pre load + depth to ring gear (CRITICAL ADJUSTMENT), then you have ring gear backlash (ALSO CRITICAL).


If the intent is to save money on a replacement differential than it may be wise to seek the assistance of a professional who is equipped with the tools for this particular task!
