New Tools - Fault Code Checker

In an effort to further educate myself as to the maintenance and repair of these cars, I have been looking for a "code reader". These run $2000+ in most cases, but SnapOn has recently come out with a new product (which is much more reasonable). I recently purchased one (the "EuroChecker") for less than $500, and it came with all cables and software needed to work with Audi, BMW, Mercedes, VW, Volvo, and several others. It is not a "complete" code reader (there are some things that I imagine the $2000 units do better), but for those of us who only work on our own cars, these might be a real useful item.

If there is anyone in the greater Phoenix area who would like to have their codes read and re-set (with no guarantee that I know what I am doing yet), feel free to contact me and we can work something out.

I bought a code reader for my two OBD-II Volvos for about $150. PC programs are also available.

I bought the EuroCheck, #MTSC25.

It resets the service lights and reads and clears hvac and airbag dtc (diag trouble codes).

It came will all cables needed for all major European brands.

Which one should I get for my 99 ML430? Is there a webpage out there which will show me their prices and features?

I imagine that these are only available on the SnapOn truck, so you might have to flag down a truck, or find a buddy who works in a shop who can order it. (Or, I could get you one...)

There is only one version (I think), which comes with all cables for most European cars (including Mercedes). Note that for w140 cars, you can only get AC and airbag DTCs (which I think are the only codes available on this car...)

www.snapon.com/eurocheck
