Replacing spring pads: True or False

When replacing the REAR spring pads on a 210 E-class suspension, do you have to loosen and drop the rear sub-frame (carrier), can you use a spring compressor, or is there a better method? My dealer says the sub-frame has to be dropped. They didn't drop the sub-frame when they installed the springs.

Someone PLEASE provide me with some info. quickly. Car goes to dealer tomorrow (Thursday). THANKS!
