Air Condition Evaporator

Hello Everyone,
I recently saw a post concerning the evaporator problem with the S-class. I have a 92 500 SEL with the evaporator leaking. I talked to one of the repair shops that I take the car and they said that there was a new product on the market that is suppose to seal the small leaks in the evaporator somewhat like a flat fix in a can. Has anyone heard of this new product and where can I find information about it? The repair shop that I talked to said that they were not sure if they were going to buy into the system because they mostly service E-class and smaller, they do not get that many S-classes in for repair. If they do adapt this new system the service coordinator said it might run under $400 dollars compared to the usual $4000 to pull and replace the evaporator.

There was a repair shop about 60 mi. north of using that sealant. Now other shops are replacing COMPLETE a/c systems due to clogging. These quick fixes come & go. Most don't have a prayer of working.

Cryoseal has their own web site with some references. All of the techs on this site slammed it and similar products pretty hard, though.

How do you know that it is the evaporator? Do you have positive evidence, or did the shops simply run out of places to look?

The dealer did a dye test which appeared in the outlet drip tubes.

How does this magic product know which small holes to seal and which to leave open? Why would it leave open an orifice over a leak in the system? Must be smart chemicals. I am betting the subsequent clogged system repairs follwing this product's use are common.

Hello Fred, I'll pile on here. This sounds like a product you use to seal a leak, re-establish cooling, and sell the car fast!

I'll agree with those who do not recommend the quick fix. "Good things aren't cheap, and cheap things aren't good."

BTW, I had to have the evaporator core replaced in the Audi last year for the best part of $2k. And, I never knew there were so many parts to the dasboard, or that they'd all fit in the back seat (where the Technician put them during repairs)

As you already know by my history with an 'S'
been there done it. Replaced mine last year as it also was eaten my microscopic mites which eat aluminum, especially Behr evaporators which weren't plastic dipped on the ends and chemically treated for prevention. Many 124&140 cars have this problem thru part of 95 and especially in the southeast. Don't try this yourself as you'll probably end with a cracked windshield. Pay the man and be done with it.
Flat rate is around 21.8 hrs. @ ?? plus parts.
