I own this car for about a year. It is a cosworth Euro edition. I have heard you are suppose to change the timing belt tensor after 90K. It has 89K right now. The car seems to start and run fine right now. Do I really have to spend $300 from Bekkers to buy the timing chain belt tensioner?

Have valve cover removed for inspection of timing chain. Also have the valve clearance checked at the same time. Valves should be checked every 15K & adjusted as needed.

I thought you can't adjust the valve because is hyraulic? If you can, how do you check for the valve clearance?

The 190e 16v does not have hydraulic lifters. There are shims under the hats which can be changed to adjust the clearances

How to change the shims
Hi M.B.Doc,
How do you remove the hat to get at the shim??? Could you please explain? I spent $150 on manual for this and there's not a thing about how to do this in details. I would greatly appreciate your help. Alex |
