I'm 18. I saw the website where I can do it for $15. Is there anywhere else that might be cheaper? It's probably not worth looking at other places I guess, I'm just cheap. Anyways, they say I have 3 hours to take the test, but it's only 25 questions, correct? Does it usually take the people that take it nearly that long? I saw a big study guide that they had in which I could print out, it would be about 30 pages, but it would work. Any tips? I'll proably take the test next week, becasue I have A LOT to learn about this stuff. Let me know what you think.

I can't recall right away, and I'm getting ready to leave now. Do a search on "609 license" or certification. That's what I did to come across IMICA maybe? It had 5 letters like that, and the site was based on automotive licensiong, etc.

I took and passed my test Friday. The link is www.epatest.com Download the study guide into a Power Point presentation and use Control F to find the answer to most of the questions. Took me about an hour. The cost is $19.95.

Larry, I was wanting to ask you a question so I'm glad you are online. I am putting on a new compressor/drier on my 380 SE. Is Ester the same as mineral oil and if I flush and vacum does 11 ounces sound about right for the oil? I searched ac.com and that was what was listed. BTW.. I'm sticking with R-12. Thanks!

Miguel, did you have to look up the answers in the study guide? Is the study guide layed out like the test at all, for instance, is it easy to find answers quickly in the study guide? I don't mean any disrespect, but why would it take an hour for 25 questions? Is it that you looked them all up or that there are more than 25 questions?

I didn't have to look them up. Its just that some of the questions are tricky, multiple choice, and I didn't want to fail the test. I still missed a couple. There is alot of info to learn and it is pretty interesting. I am not going to go into the a/c business but I needed to purchase 1 more pound of R-12 to finish my compressor/drier replacement. If you read the online material and can retain info, you should be able to finish the 25 questions fairly quickly. Good luck.

Some folks will use Ester with R12 because folk lore has it that it is "compatible" with R12. You are better off using mineral oil with R12.

Taking the test in an hour is pretty good. If you will print out the study guide, read it and then have it on hand when you take the test, you can probably get done in an hour.

The test is not laid out such that you can just go straight to the answer. Read the material first is my suggestion.

The questions do tend to be tricky, and may require referencing more than on section to put the pieces together. Do not presume that it can be done without some studying in advance just because it is open book.
