Question Late model transmission interchange question

Hey guys,

Does anyone know if all Mercedes after 1997 use the same transmission (722.6XX)? I am curious if I can take a transmission from say a 2000 s500 and put it in a 1997 E320. Of course, I will probably have to replace the ETC and recode.

Thanks,
Brian

No, there are many versions of the 722.6. Each version actually carries the full tag 722.6XX, and they are constructed slightly differently.

However, that does not mean that the V-8 version won't work with the V-6, but it might mean some modifications. Not sure if anyone has done this, given the relative newness of the 722.6.

97 e320 has a 104 motor and the bell housing is different from the s-class with the 113 motor. That is one of the big differences.
