Here is the deal. In February of 2002 I bought a 1995
S320 for $24,000. Had 69,000 miles on it. Just traded the car in today for a 1999 S420 with 23,176 miles. Really, the miles are right and carfax show routine maintenance. The car is the cleanest I have ever seen. Not one scratch, ding or fade mark on the entire car. Car is white with tan leather interior. The car cannot be told from new. Smells new and drives new. You could put a window sticker on it and no one would know it is used other than the mileage. Question? I paid top buck for this at $29,500.00. I bought this car because it is the last year of the big S Class cars and the one owner low mileage car like this should give me many years of driving pleasure. I probably paid a little too much. However, just trying to reaffirm myself that this is not bad for this type of vehicle. The dealership raped me on the trade in value on the 1995 S320. They gave me $12,000. It had 84,000 miles on it. The car needed new pads, rotors, door activator pump was not pulling door closed. The wipe on the head light did not work. So, it did need some work. What are you thougts on the S420? I am not a Mercedes vigirn but just curious on other experience with this. My other option was to buy a 1999 BMW 750IL which had a 12 cylinder and had 68,000 miles on it for the same price. The 12 cylinder is kind of intimidiating. The windows were the double pane but had bubles in between panes which looked awful. Any how, thoughts on if I did good or got taken would be appreciated. Did you get a Starmark warranty? Did you get a prepurchase inspection?
A 99 with 23K miles must be spectacular because a 95 with 135K miles is pretty darn good ![]() Sixto 95 S420 87 300SDL |
