Reprogramming Merc Remote fobs

Hi,

my SLK 230 has the usual two remote keys, and the emergency key. Both remotes now have stopped working over the past year, with only my emergency one left!!!

Does anyone know where in the UK I can get my two remote fobs redone?

Thanks,

L

I take it that it's not just the battery that's gone dead. I believe they need to be replaced at the dealership, unless you're willing to install a completely different, aftermarket remote unlocking system.

I went through this with my '99 ML. We bought it used and one remote never worked, and the 2nd was soaked in beer at a car show (and quit).

2 years later I still had them (I neve throw keys out, afteral) and found the re-programming instructions here. Viola.. now BOTH work.

You should also be able to find the re-sync instructions in your owners manual or via search on this website. For me this worked.. git it a try before you flush $125.00 each down the tubes on remotes that you did not *need*.

Change the batteries before trying to resync.. who knows if they can lose the code on a battery change or not (I changed them just to be sure before I re-sync'd)

Good luck... let is know how it goes..

The battreies can be removed with reinitializing the keys as long as it is done quickly. I'm not sure what quickly means but we have done it not so quickly many times and had no problems.

Fixed LED

hi again.

thanks for that guys, I will try it when i get home tonight....

I know the plip is now working, as I tightened the battery contacts which had been pushed back. The LED now works and Ive put in fresh batteries.

Can someone tell me the definative way of resynching the remotes? Ive seen a few alternative versions on here....

Am I the only person that thinks the range distance for the remotes in Mercs is rubbish?

Lennie
