Outside Temp C280

The outside temperature display does not work, it actually has come on sporadically but is never the correct temp. Does anyone know where the sensor is on the car. If not this what else could be the problem.

Thanks
Eric

On my '96 C280 it is located just below the front bumper, in the black grating, on the left side. It's a small black rod.

It's mounted to a small plastic panel below the left front headlight.

I'll bet that it's the sensor.

If it isn't, I have an extra inside temp display module that I'll sell you (fairly cheap too) - as I tried replacing the screen first. Live and learn.

Where does the end not connected to the grill get connected to? Is it behind the dash?

It routes through the engine compartment and ends up connecting to the back of the instrument cluster. I believe that it joins one of the harnesses that connect to the cluster behind the dash, although I never traced it. I cut the bad sensor right behind the bumper, cut the wire on the new sensor, and soldered them together.

Tad,

Thanks, if it is not the sensor I may take you up on the module.

With regard to cutting the wires, how many are there in the cable?

Just two. Green and Brown. Be sure to seal the spliced connection when you are done.
