w201 climate control unit question

The lights for the climate control unit (pet name for the row of buttons half way up the center console on US version) flickered on and off twice before dying all together. The buttons no longer function, nor does the blower speed selection.

Is there a single fuse for this assembly? Where?

Any other ideas?

Thanks much.

The power for the climate control lighting runs through the instrument cluster. Is your instrument cluster lit?

If none of the selections for the climate controls are working either, the connector plug on the left side of the climate control might have popped off?

I get mine out by removing the glove box. You might not have to do this. Then remove the wood trim covering the fan switch. Remove the two screws on each side and push the fan switch out of the way. There are two clips, one on each side, that lock the climate control in the center dash. Lift the tabs and slide it out. I belive the plug on the left is the one we are discussing.

Yes, the instrument cluster is lit (although one bulb is burnt out). I don't think the lights for the switches are the main problem as the buttons are no longer working. I will check the connector plug tonight-thanks for the advice on how to remove it!

Is there a fuse for this unit?

Dan,

Some of the older units do have a fuse on the back.

I ended up replacing the unit with one from ProGrama for 200$. I can't say what was wrong with the old unit-they just said it was junk and sent me a new one. Great service from these guys, and easily the best price around.

Do a google for their website, they're based in Boca Raton FL.
