I have heard alot of poeple say that they have done the 500E conversion to the 190E brakes. I have a 1993 190E 2.6 and want to upgrade to the 500E brakes if possible. I wanted to know if they will fit without any major modifications. Can the Fit almost be guarantees, or do I have to worry about brake lines and stuff?

I talked to Lee and he said I should post the quest here.

Any help greatly appreciated.

The only difference between the 400E and the 500E brakes is the use of aluminum calipers I think... Use the 400's I think that they are cast iron and have fewer problems with calipers.

Okay so I should go with the 400E, but will they fit without any other mods?

I dont think they will work with your stock wheels. You need the late w124 15" 8 hole wheels if you want oem type wheels or most aftermarket wheels should work also if you want to go that route. With stock wheels you will need 5mm spacers in the front and I my opinion that is not the way to go. Hope this helps.

So I need 15" wheels besides my current 15x6 15 hole ones correct? If so, will the 15" OE Multispoke wheels work that TireRack sells for $35?

Other then that, their should be no problems correct? And You think I should stick with OEM Pads as well?
Thanxs for your input.

Forgive me for being so inquisitive, but exactly what are you trying to accomplish with installing 500E brakes on your 190E? If your car has a 225hp stroker motor in it, I'd say, "go for the bigger brakes". However, anything short of that, I'd have to say you're better off spending the money on nice 16" AMG-type rims and performance tires. If your desire is still better braking, you might want to consider: slotted rotors, sport brake pads, and stainless steel braided brake lines. Hope this helps.

I planned on doing some tuning to the car, and first thing I wanted to do is get the brakes on. Its time for me to replace my front and REAR rotors along with pads so I figured now would be a good time to upgrade if I am going to do it. I already have 17x7.5 TSW EVO II Titanium wheels, but I wanted to make sure that I would be able to fit the Winter Wheels on them. Since I planned on using my OEM wheels and now realized they won't fit, I wanted to know if the 15" wheels the TireRack offers would work.

I later plan on transplanting a M104 3.2 engine in it. Supposedly, hp is suppose to be around 228@5600 and torque around 232@3750. The engine is out of an 95 S320 wrecked from the back/rear side. The front is untouched, but everything behind the drivers side door is gone. The engine is being sold for $2100 and has 34K miles.

My only other concern is the transmission, and weather or not it will need upgrading. If so, I think I meet use a manual trans out of a late 80s 300E since my current 2.6 has the 4-speed auto.

I have seen someone that has had this upgrade done on another 190E and he has had success with it. He also lives in this area (DC) and I might hace the shop (R.C. Imports) do the work for me.

Also, If I go through with the transplant, I also plan on getting on fender work done, and to see if I can fit anything bigger then 17x7.5 in there. If I could get 17x8s, I would want to try and put 235/40/17 on the 17x8s. I would probably sell my 17x7.5 EVO II Titanium wheels. I had them on my old 190E 3.0 that was bored to a 3.2. However, on that car, I just got a brembo kit and found it to expensive to maintain. I was hoping to get most of the parts from an older model wreck or something.

Thanxs for all the help, and I appreciate the input. It think the entire process might take a while to complete, but I am not going to be using the car the much while I am off to school anyways. Since we sold the other 190, I decided to invest a little in our current one. Besides that, I am going to see if I get anything for my 2.6 engine. Its in perfect condition and I just got the 90K service done on it.

Sounds like you have great plans for your 190E. Also, I forgot that you folks on the "right coast" (as opposed to us on the "left coast") have to worry about running 2 sets of wheels -- one for Winter, one for Summer. We in California just run our Summer wheels year 'round . You mentioned RC Imports? Is that THE RC Imports in Rockville, MD? I've dealt quite a bit with the "R" in "RC" -- that'd be Rick Ellinger. Nice guy, and I think they'd do you proud if you had them build you a motor. With his racing outfit (16Vs), he has a lot of track time behind his work.

Good Luck!

Brian

Thanxs, I thought about that, but it was cheaper just to drop the 3.2 in, then finding a 2.3-16 and having them rebuild one. I really haven't talked to them yet, but plan to as soon as I get things finalized.

I don't know if I am going through with my plans just yet, because of this entire Daewoo thing using MB engines. If I just waited for them to come out, I might be able to get a brand new manual and engine from a wrecked one for dirt cheap.

this is a tad late, but anyhow:

500E brakes are NOT a direct fit, you will have to replace the entire steering knuckle. The 500E uses R129 components, whereas the 190E doesn't (obviously). Even the 16V only has W124 components.

A better, more cost effective swap would be to go to 400E providing the 2.6 uses 300E brakes as well. I don't know if this is the case.

also bear in mind the offset of the rims...the 7.5" evo II's will NOT fit over the 500E caliper
