putting a 1989 300se on the road

I'm helping a friend 300 miles south of here put a 1989 300se on the road. He lost the head gasket and has gotten the head worked and it's ready to put on. His current problem, is proper timing marks. He claims that there is nothing obvious for timing alignment.

Any chance somebody has one of these with the rocker cover off and can take a picture for me? That or explain what he's looking for to me so I can relay it to him? It would help if I were there or he were here, but that's not going to happen any time soon.

Thanks.

-CTH

Couldn't you find the timing mark on the cam and the tower? Although there would be a 50/50 chance you have it right.
Thanks
David

turn the engine by hand till you get number one piston at TDC on its compression stroke then align marks on cam sproket and cam tower.I generaly turn it through its cycle several time by hand after the chain is in place to double check it. If you replaced the chain the timing mark will also show TDC but make sure you are on compression stroke.........

Here is a screen shot from the manual Charley. I apologize for the size and slow load time, but in .bmp format I had to keep it big so you could make out the detail.

Once you have this saved or printed or memorized, please let me know so I can pull it off my server. Damn picture is 2.25MB.

Hope this helps.

I'm not the guy doing the work. He said he didn't see any marks to go by. I'll pass the picture on to him. Thanks Mike. -CTH
