My Transmission

Howdy,
I have a 78 240D (123.123.12.050680) which had been fine until last Sunday. While driving at 65 it seemed to go in and out of gear, finally staying in long enough for me to get off the interstate - but at the 1st redlight when I tried to go, all I had was neutral - no forwards or reverse!

I had the tranny backflushed a couple of months ago to solve a shift problem (which it did) and now I'm told that the backflush can block the filter and cause a problem just like I am having.

I thought I'd try a new filter and fluid change first, then try to find a used tranny.

I have a non-vacuum controlled transmission - so I don't *think* I have a modulator - is that correct?? It sounds like the front pump is not working - maybe damaged by the Torque Converter ears coming off and being demaged.

Does that make sense?

Actually the common fault with your symptoms is the shearing of spilnes in the output of one of the planetaries. Done a number of them.
