It would help if you could include a picture. What type of rivet was used? I'm guessing it was a Pop-type rivet. In any case, most rivets can be drilled out using a hand drill and appropriate sized drill bit. You will need to know the diameter of the rivet body. Select a slightly smaller drill bit, I would say .010 to .020 inches smaller in diameter. Make sure the drill bit is EXACTLY in the center of the rivet, and that the centerline of the drill bit is lined up with the centerline of the rivet. Slowly drill the rivet out. Be careful not to let the drill bit point "walk" (drift) off center, otherwise you will start digging into the bracket. Once you drill all the way through, you may have to knock the head of the rivet off using a chisel or old flat blade screwdriver. If necessary, punch out any left-over rivet from the hole. Good luck!
