Yes, I do beleive that there is a throttle speed control somewhere on the manifold, but do not know where the location is??

Check for a loose vacuum line.
Seems like when I tore my Intake apart I was fiddling with the vacuum lines and I elicted something like this |

Thanks, I checked all of the vacuum lines, and just double checked and all seem to be fine, I have replaced some of them in the past also. Still can not find the problem, car will still start and keep running as long as I keep the gas pedal depressed and the RPM's over 700, still if I let off and let it try and idle it stalls. I will eventually get to the root of this stupid problem, that is with everyones help. Thanks to everyone so far for their great imput. Ben

Engine harnesses are known to deteriorate. The actuator harness suffers the same fate only it is concealed by the exterior sheathing on the actuator pigtail. A small incision in the sheathing may prove beneficial in your quest to discover the cause of your stalling problem. If it is the actuator you will want to replace it before it takes out the “ISC/CC” or “ASR/E-Gas” module. If you need some info on testing the actuator values let me know. |

Great, sounds like it could be the culprit. Yes I would appreciate you sending me the values that I need to check the actuator, I beleive to get to the wires everything there has to come apart?? And if I start moving the wires they all might start cracking. I presume this is not going to be an easy fix??

Oh yeah
NOW I REMEMBER!!!!!
I have a 530i(V8) Bimmer wagon and it was doing EXACTLY what you describe. It would not run on its own, but I could drive it only if I "power braked" it. Yeah that right.....So on the Bimmer forum(roadfly), I read that the fuel pump was a culprit for this particular affliction. I replaced it and sure 'nough, that's what it was. I know you did the fuel pump"hum test" It may hum and it may be sending SOME, just not enough. These V8's LOVE fuel. If you have not already done so, check your fuel pump by using a pressure tester OR by either disconnecting the sending line at pump attaching a piece of extension hose and having someone else turn the ignition on and observing whether it barely or REALLY flows out, And OR by disconnectiong the fuel pressure regulator(it might be the culperet as well) located on the Dr. side fuel rail on the engine and again verifying whether or not a LOT of fuel comes out, the pump may be okay but check it anyway by turning the key on briefly. (CAUTION) Do whatever you think is best to direct the fuel in a safe direction. I'm not looking at the car but maybe you can place it inside of a short piece of water hose or old radiator hose. If the fuel pump is good, that fuel out to shoot out like crazy. If its barely or comes out in a weak stream....there's your culprit. (PLEASE BE CAREFUL COVER ALL ELECTRONICS. YOU DO NOT WANT TO GET A SPARK ) Or its Bye, Bye Baby |

Ok everyone, you have to hear this, I finally got fed up and called MB dealer, they said that they could not tell me what was wrong with the car, even though I told them what the codes were. They told me to try and bring the car in, I did, and the put it on the diagonostic machine and the stupid car sat there and idled all by it self, the mechanic looked at me as if I was nuts. and as far as the diagnostics were concerened, they could not find a problem, except for a few codes that were in there, re ran the car after clearing codes and it ran just fine?? real crazy. Just figured that I would let everyone know of the outcome.

I know its been a couple of days since your last post. But, when you wrote that at the dealer everything appeared fine, the first thing that occured to me, is that: "a bad wiring harness will do that".
Mine was bad. Before it was replaced, it took the ignition module (not cheap) and a coil with it. If you do a search for the above mentioned, you will get a good amount of info. Good luck! -Larry

Larry, thanks for the information, that is just what I am afraid of, do not have that kind of money to lay out. Just do not know what I am going to do. Ben
