I had a local mechanic come over the other day and he diagnosed my 420SEL's no start condition as a bad coil. I talked to my uncle and he said the car will at least start on ANY coil. So, yesterday I came home and put my dad's coil in the 420. Sure enough, it finally started, but was blowing out white smoke. The white smoke dissipated after about 3-4 minutes of running, but it sure did fill up the whole street with smoke. It was pretty humorous actually. Anyways, it was idling at 2400 rpm's, nice and steady. Within the past couple weeks I've had the valve covers off, and have put gasoline into the intake as well as carb cleaner all on separate days. It has 2 day old plugs in it. Will a new coil solve this idle? I dodn't see how a coil could cause it to idle high. I double checked all my vacuum lines and electrical connections and they were all good. Also, what caused the smoke like that? I expected the smoke from the manifolds becasue oil got on them from removing the valve covers, but I don't understand why it blow out smoke so heavily. You did not have to look for the smoke, it was everywhere, and fast!
Thanks
