Late Model 190e 16v SLS Removal (Already Searched)
hi all.
I have read ALL the threads on the above, but none of them relate to my specific question. I have a 1990 190e 2.5 16v. It has the SLS but also has the ASD. This means the SLS and the ASD are on the same hydraulic circuit. This means that if I go down the normal route of blocking of the SLS pump to remove the SLS I will no longer have a hydraulic feed for the ASD/Diff and my traction control will not work. Can someone please comment on the following points? (1) one idea is to swap my diff for an early mechanical one as the locking/traction control mechanism is mechanical not hydraulic. If I did this how do the earlier diffs work, don’t they have loads of wires going to them? Would an early mechanical locking diff work in a late car?? Assuming it did I could then remove the SLS “circuit” and still have the traction control. I must admit this route is not preferred, as I have only quite recently replaced the diff, with a correct hydraulic locking one, at great expense. (2) Another idea, and this is where I really need the guidance. Would it be possible to re-plumb the hydraulic circuit to exclude the rear shocks and associated workings but still provide a feed for the diff? I am not sure of the layout of the pipework as yet – does anyone have a diagram of any description? I am assuming if I could thake the SLS out of the "loop" then I could remove it easily. Any help/guidance/advice/pointers appreciated. Many thanks
