fuel pump or relay?

My 87 190E-2.6 sometime will just die while driving, it could be coasting, under acceleration, up hill, down hill or even sitting at a stop light. when it does and i try to restart it just cranks. if i wait about a minute or two and then try, it starts up right away. does anyone know what this could be? ken

kanadary,
I had an almost similar problem, just that my W124 will suddenly die when I slow down. It always restarts without problem. You may have a faulty fuel pump relay.

Fuel Pump Relay

Sounds like its the fuel pump relay.. I would try to resolder the connectors/tions and make sure there is no corrosion to be found and make sure the connection to the bracket is snug.. I would try ebay for a replacement I have had good luck with bhused.com for components of all sorts they are out of Houston..
Good Luck

I had my fuel pump(s) fail

The car was having fuel starvation problems under full throttle. What gave it away though was it got loud enough to hear on the freeway, so there was no doubt it was the pump. I wish it was the relay, the pump is about $200, and there's two
