If my timing chain tensioner has failed or is not working properly would this influence my oil pressure at low RPM?

Chain tens. has nothing to do with oil pressure.It's normal for the pressure to drop to between 1 and 2 when the engine idles. But, upon acceleratiom the needle should hit the peg. If it does'nt, then you can worry.And it won't be something as simple as the chain tens. Bill Lewallen Lex.Ky.

I always thought that if your timing chain tensioner gave up oil pressure would be the last of your worries.

Thanks for the responses, I thought that the tensioner worked off the oil pressure to tension the chain, i.e. thats the symptom produced upon start up when you hear the slight rattle until the oil pressure comes up. Mine just started this but has subsiquently stopped, now i've notice the erratic oil pressure. It may just be a coencidence<sp>. The oil pressure at idle drops to 0 but will imediatly jump, it only runs at 3 bar at highway rpm, is that normal?
