Hi to all,
I am an unfortunate poor soul that is stuck with a 1973 450 SE that needs trigger points. Forget about cleaning them - the rubbing blocks are worn...so is the rest of the car. So, instead of shelling out precious greenbacks to the greedy parts vendors - I am considering bypassing the trigger point setup. While a Crane or Pertronix is great for the ignition point end of the spectrum - it does nothing for the fuel injectors side as you fine folks already know. Here is my idea - how about using the the pickup signals from the the ignition end of the distributor (using the modified Crane or Pertronix setup) to accurately time the injectors? Some modifications would obviously be needed - wiring, etc. Sounds pretty straightfoward. I am more than happy to use my vehicle as a donor if this end to the trigger points nusiance is gone from all suffering souls of this German design flaw. Now let's put our heads together and make this work. Input greatly appreciated. Best regards to all, Tom

Won't work -- you need to provide an on/off transition for each of the four sets of injectors. Timing isn't all that critical, but you have to cycle them all properly or the EFI won't operate the injectors.
I'm in the same boat, will get new tirgger points later this year. Just dropped nearly a grand on the TE this month, and the 300D needs new tires and front end work, something is loose. Peter

if you did do it, you could use an optical pickup (hall effect), but i dont know where you would put it
