Pertronix Ignitor for 1959 180?

The distributor on our "new" 180 needs to be rebuilt (anyone got one sitting?) and I figured I'd put an Ignitor in when it all goes back to together. Had great success with the Ignitor we put in my 1976 280C. Thanks for your time...

Mike

Dan Caron @ Benz Barn rebuilds Bosch distributors. Everybody sez he's the guy on rebuilds.

His # is 1 877 661-6061 or email benzbarn(at)ebtech.net.

If you need a Pertronix model # I suggest calling Petronix's tech support with your Bosch distributor tag number. It's on their website, I think.

Souping up the bathtub benz?? You might have carburetor options too. If it was me, I'd call the guy recommended for rebuilds and see what he says about the petronix.

If you go the Pertronix route, it's well worth the extra $25-30 for one of their ignition coils. With these two Pert items installed I found my ignition much more stable at idle and improved pickup at speed.

Thumbs up Some progress.

Well, thanks to Carl at RetroRockets!!! www.vintageperformance.com/retrorockets/
He got me in touch with Marvin in the Tech Dept at Pertronix and I may be sending my distributor in to see if an existing kit will fit or if they can easily adapt one and make it available. Apparently there are 10 kits that are a possibility but none are guaranteed to fit.
I'll keep you all posted.
Oh yeah, not sure why I put 190 in my title before...the car is a 180! duh...

Many years ago, when I got my '61 180b, I discovered that VW beetles would out-drag it from stoplights.
I used to daydream about souping it up with a 190SL engine!

Happy Motoring, Mark
