Getting to adjustment screw on NSS

The reverse lights on my 108 don't go on. The PO said that he had replaced the neutral safety switch, so I'm guessing it's just misadjusted.

I went to do the adjustment last weekend per TomGuy's instructions, and discovered that I didn't have enough clearance to get to the adjustment screw. I ran the shifter through all positions to no avail.

It looks like I might be able to get to it with an offset screwdriver, but before I go down that road, I wanted to check and see if there's something simple that I missed that would make this any easier.

Any suggestions?

Unfortunatley, I didn't have clearance to get my digital cam in there to get a decent pic.

However, using a very short slotted screwdriver, I was able to get to the screw. It's one of those where the screwdriver + the handle takes up about 2.5" length total.

Success!

Yeah, I had slightly less than 1" of clearance -- maybe something changed between 1971 and 1972?

In any case, a $2.19 offset screwdriver gave all the access and torque I needed to complete the job. Tom, thanks for all the info on your page about how to do this adjustment -- I finally have backup lights!

Glad I can help someone, even one person who can use the knowledge makes it worthwhile

I never had lights until I took the switch apart, cleaned it, then adjusted it myself. So that makes at least two of us who benefited - myself and you!
