rotor 4.5 vs 3.5
Last night, I stole the vacuum advance off an old distributor from a 4.5 parts car that I had parted out previously. In doing so, I noticed the rotor in the old distributor was marked "3.5" and had a centrifical rev limiter feature built into it. Any thoughts, comments, knowledge would be appreciated.

The redline of a 3.5 is 6800 RPMs, a 4.5 is 6000, so the rev limiter rotor from a 3.5 won't do you any good in the 4.5
Unless you plan on keeping your tranny in 1st gear in your 4.5, or over 140-something MPH, you don't need a rev-limiter rotor.

At least in my '71 3.5, the vacuum diaghram is for ignition retard, not for advance. Advance is mechanical, I believe, on these cars.

Thanks for the input
Tom,
Thanks for the input. As this came out of a 4.5, I assume that I can keep it in my pile of emergency spares. I am slowly working my way through different components to get this sweet old chariot at its maximum. |
