Anybody near Chicago O'hare?

being the crazy person that I am, I just purchased two Ponton coupes in Chicago. I'm in NY of course, so this presents a few little problems.

Anybody near O'hare wanna visit the cars for me with a digital camera and tell me how much trouble I'm in?

A further compilication is that they have to move by Monday of next week, so I need somebody to move them and a place to move them to. Any recommendations cheerfully accepted.

Thx -CTH

LOL, yeah you're in one helluva mess now..... But if you find out one of em is halfway drivable then I will take a bus from Louisville to Chicago and drive it cross country at cost of expenses plus return ticket and less cost of food.

Neither are drivable. One is "just a shell". The other is partially disassembled and needs "total restoration". In theory, both are rolling chassis, but the seller is a nice lady that runs an auction house, not somebody conversant with cars. Thus I need somebody to eyeball them and make sure they roll, have no parts falling off, and can gauge how safely they can be loaded on a trailer.

Of course, the real reason I'm screwed is that my wife bought a brand new Accord LX last night because I was going to much money on my cars this year, so she wanted some of the action. Smart girl that one.

Honda?!?!?!?!?! Who would want one of those front wheel drivers anyhow?

If it's gas mileage she wants, drop a diesel in one of those pontons...

If its comfort, another 108, or perhaps a 600?

Sheesh, we sold my girlfriend's Civic to get our 72 4.5...

Then again, for two broke college students, that might not have been the SMARTEST thing we've done. (Head job, etc to the tune of almost 4k now)

she wants "all the modern conveniences" with zero hassles. Imagine that demanding that the car never break down or need maintenance. I offered her a nice 190E 2.6, but she wasn't interested. The honda is one of the top rated cars in consumer reports. Oh well. -CTH

And does Consumer Reports put 200k miles, or even 100k, or hell, even 20k miles on more than one car in evaluation tests? Or do they just "Observe" how many Hondas Vs. Chevys from 2004 are still running in 2005 and extrapolate that data? Or is it something else? I always wanted to know HOW they rate their cars on value. Initial value is easy, sure, best options and power and fuel mileage divided by price - but continued cost of ownership, maintanance, and reliability are all factors they CANNOT calculate.

they do two things.
1. Collect data about the current model.
2. Collect feedback and data about prior years.

The Accord LX has been consistently rated highly as both a new car and used. Her prior car was a 1997 Lumina. Mom's is a 2002 Buick Century. All are consistently great.

Now can we get back to the original mercedes related thread about finding somebody in Chicago who can look at my two ponton coupes?

Maybe go to the "mercedes shops" forum here and find an independent mechanic in the area who can arrange shipping the cars to you. Pontoon coupes are outrageous cool vehicles with round bowler style roofs, even better than cabriolets imho.
