Relationahip w/ MBCA forums
I hope this is not a stupid question, but is this site related to the MBCA forum site (http://mbca.cartama.net/index.php)?? They are quite similar in some ways. Thanks.

No relation but some of the same members here are members over there too.

Both very good forums, but not related.

The mbca forms are nice, but this group of people and their technical knowhow outstrip them hands down. Partially because mercedesshop.com started their forum before the mbca got its act together (there was a lot of in-fighting for a while). Partially, it's because not every great arm-chair mechanic cares to be a member and the MBCA moderators tend to kick out visitors after a few dozen posts.
Bravo to the great team of people that answers questions here and bravo to the people that pay the bills to keep it alive (which is to say the people that buy parts here). -CTH |

I think the similarity you are referring to is known as a software program.

The similarity ends with the format. The MBCA boards, like many of their members have no technical ability nor do they have any real interest in "how things work". At least 75% of the posts there could be answered by opening the owner's manual and many of the technical questions go unanswered because most of the people who scan the posts don't have any idea what they are talking about. I've sent many technical posters to this forum in an attempt to get them the right answers...sometimes I check in for laughs but have never gotten anything useful off that board.
It's just like when I went to one of the meetings. 90% of the members are old, retired folks who never touched a wrench...nothing wrong with that, they love the cars too, just from "above the hood". It's just not a technical club, more of a social club, at least my chapter is. I'd love to see some REAL technical meetings of MBCA but my chapter seems to be more of the picnic and drive crowd.

I hang out on the MBCA board once in a while. My frustration was that it was painfully obvious that almost all the people who asked the questions had no ability to carry out the advice or answers. So you end up advising them on what their mechanics should be doing. My other frustration was that some of the advice that was given was so lame that it was painful to read.
I think that the MBCA experience depends on the section. We have a good group with some hands-on types in Greater Washington.

But, most of the problems they answer could be easily found with a search of this board's past posts since the MBCA is essentially re-inventing the wheel by doing a tech board but starting it years after this one was established. In any event, I have essentially stopped contributing over there because when I do post responses I very rarely get any acknowledgement at all...so I don't know if the poster has even checked to see if anyone gave them any advice or not. At least on this board, if you post a response, you get near-instant feedback, if not from the original poster than from someone telling me that I don't know what the hell I'm talking about and correcting me...so its a giving and receiving experience here.

Would do us an honor, i think, if administrators and members of other MB forums would post connections at our Vintage Links Folder stickied above. For example, the 113 Pagoda People have recently contributed a heap of amazing links specialized for Pagodas and I think that's cool as hell.
