Today I "freshened" the rear carb. Went through the fuel block. Basically everything (primary and secondary jets, mixing tube) that mixed gas with air was plugged so I soaked everything in cleaner, rinsed in water, blew out and reassembled.

Engine fired immediately, but would not idle and ran rough but with periods of occasional smoothness -I had to keep it running by pumping the gas pedal. Still, a step in the right direction. The engine sounded good, lots of oil pressure, no smoke, and no leaks. Not bad for a 1992 rebuild!

My plan now is to do a complete rebuild of the front carb including the base to be sure the idle circuit is OK. I will then try to run the engine and maybe proceed to rebuild the base of the rear carb as well.

I will say the change today after the "freshening" of the rear carb was like night and day. It makes me think that Christy's problems are probably carb-related.

Thanks for everyone's support on this.

Chuck

Hi Chuck!

WOW! Glad to hear that YOU got YOUR 250C running!!
Strong work!!
Woo Hoo!!

Did you do any adjustments on it OR were you lucky enough to get it to run in it's current state ( along with your scrub down, of course)?

No adjustments - just cleaning out the jets, mixing tubes and anything else that had a hole in it. Also let the top and fuel block soak for a while. The float and valve looked OK so I did not mess with them.

My motto is like the physicians - "First, do no harm."

I do have two extra carbs if you end up needing parts.

Good luck!

Chuck
