The principal thing is you are trying to establish is what you have. The bad knock you hear kind of might be my first major concern if you can locate it. Can you keep the engine running enough to back off injector nuts one at a time to see if it indicates the cylinder? Then swap injectors to make sure it's either an injector or not. An open injector could be causing havoc. Just keep an open mind. The gradual loss of power by the previous owner is a clue here as well. If the car had developed a rod knock for instance the power would not have usually declined.

Thanks again all,
I can really get her to run for long, only a couple seconds. I posted this in another thread but I found metal bits in the valves... I'm going to check the clearence tonight to see if anything is out of wack. Also a bit of metal in the oil, but not much. I'm also going to pull the oil pan and have a look. the knock is not sustained, which I find odd. Also the timing seems good, and the chain looks suprisingly new. Keep any advice comming... I need all the help I can get... I'll post pictures of the metal in the other thread along wiht a pick of the ifters to see if the wear is normal... thanks all.
