That should have a .9 ohm ballast.
Read the last part of last post.

Apparently our ohm meter has mysteriously dissappeared. I have a friend dropping one by after work today. Since I miss my car and couldn't wait for my husband to get home I started reading the manual myself. In the mean time I kept futzing with the car. I have been slightly adjusting the idle speed air screw and occasionally the timing. The car almost starts!! It gets to the point where I'm sure its just going to fire right up and it doesn't. It wasnt making more than the starter sound before, but now I keep jumping up and down in the seat because I'm so sure its going to start!! When I turn the key off, it even makes the "settling down" sound it usually makes after being turned off. (sorry for my descriptions, I hope they are informative! ) This can't possibly be due to the ballasts right?!? We did check the spark one more time and it is very bright. I know I'm being impatient and should just wait for the ohm reading, but I'm hoping I made some progress today! Does this sound like it might be something else to you?

Finally got the meter...just a quick question or two. When you say ohm the ballast out of circut, I'm assuming you mean dissconnect from the coil or disconnect the coil? The car is turning over and gas is making it to the plugs, its just not starting. Should we ohm the coil as well?

Yes..when getting resistance values form a resistor, it is best to get it out of the circuit b/c the meter could read the rest of the circuits resistance..you only have to disconnect one side of the component and then take a reading across the part..
coils resistance that you want is across the two small terminals Same deal, disconnected...and don't forget to zero in the meter before taking any ohm readings, or they will be wrong and useless...

Talking A running car!!

Apparently I describe things differently than everyone else! Meaning my idea of "firing" and "starting" are completely different than anyone else that has worked on a car...no matter, I'm still learning and will get it together one of these days!! Thanks for all your help though. It turned out to be fouled up plugs and the timing and idle all messed up. I now have a running car (which is why I haven't posted anything here recently!!). Now I just have to figure out how to hand crank the motor so I can get the timing just right.....
