111 sec question

forum,i am in the process of rebuilding a 1969 280sec and the rear end sags bad, there is a spring/hydrolic device mounted horziontal toward the rear passenger wheel, could some one help me identify?
i looked on fast line and dont see it listed in parts.
also have a 1970 coupe and it is different.
am i stuck with having to replace the device, will the later differentals like 280se (72-73) replace this style?
any help is appreciated.

Hydro-compensator..
Replace with a compensating spring kit from a 108..
Do a search on compensating spring

Item #90 on this site ..go to rear axle insert

lol,i have been driving it in my neighborhood, need to get that rear end to settle down, too much bounce for the interstate.
on the 70 280sec i have, shouldnt i just take the spring assy and install it in place of the hydro unit? i am sticking to the house today, blood already got thinned down with the early spring temp,so will look at the conversion when it warms up a bit, your opinion appreciated.

Yes , that is what you do..junk the hydro and put in the spring unit.most guys get one from a scrap yard 108 chassis..but if you have an Sec there with the spring set-up, that will fit.. almost all swing axles came with the spring..the hydro was put in some of the S class chassis, and was an option on some late SLs

Hydropneumatic compensator

Go here and click on rear axle..it shows both the hydo and the coil modification kit { Item # 91]
