Passenger side mirror popped out - nylon seal ring available?

My '72 250 passenger side mirror fell out - white ring totally eroded. Mirror is fine - spring behind the mirror okay - is this fixable?

You mean FastLane P/N O5085-72028 ?
I just ordered one (about 2 months ago...) for mine along with the glass. The ring itself is like $2.50.

This may be a dumb question but that part listing says it's for the left side. Are they interchangeable? I need one for the right (passenger) side.

OK, I just got a ring - which was for the left side and it does not fit. The mirrors are cut just a little bit different and the rings are not interchangeable. Called Phil and he said that the right side mirror was a relatively rare option...and good luck finding the ring!

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this thing? I just need to rig something to hold that mirror inside the metal frame. There is a round spring that presses the mirror against the nylon ring - pretty simple design really, unless you can't find the proper ring to hold the glass snug against the frame.

Ryan, you say it's cut differently. I assume it's a mirror image of the left side (no pun intended).

Therefore, it's the right size and just should need some coaxing. Get yourself a heat gun and coax away using the mirror as a template.

How about using a piece of bike tube rubber to make the seal? I have been looking at my drivers mirror and see the same problem coming. Another option would be adhesive like silicone.

Tomguy,

Tried that - thought I could get it but the ring justs doesn't melt right -can't really explain, but I tried to mold (coax) the thing to fit the mirror and eventually the ring broke on me. It is a pretty hard nylon ring... at least I think it's nylon.

Blue,

Thought about the silicone and I don't think it will hold - looks like it will just ooze out. The spring behind the mirror puts a decent amount of pressure on the mirror.

I have an extra ring - so I may try "coaxing" it again.
