My old fintail on TV - Boston area

Hey everybody,

I brought my old gray 67 sedan in to E.A.S. in Waltham to have the gas tank flushed out and the channel 5 news "chronicle" happened to come in and film the shop as part of a story they were doing. Apparently my car was filmed quite a bit according to Ed, the specialist for the vintage cars. It'll air sometime in the next couple weeks, if you watch channel 5 around Boston regularly check it out!

Congratulations, you're a star!

I had a 51 caddy convertible once which the seller told me was in the movie "Macon county line". We rented the movie one night and watched the whole thing and never saw the car. The movie sucked too. But the seller had pictures and a newspaper article saying it was in the movie. I decided it must have been rented for the movie and then got cut out or was in a distant shot and not easy to see.

Anyway it is good clean fun for you.

I would be interested in seeing the story as well. I just dropped my car off there about a week and a half ago to get my transmission replaced. I expect it back in about another 2 weeks or so. (Transmission is being shipped from Germany). Both Ed and Tim are extremely nice guys and I am enjoying working both of them so far. I had a chance to chat with Tim for about 20 minutes when I dropped my car off and he really did a great job selling me on his place.

NHOC-When I was in there all different models were in there as well..including an SL that I believe was from the early 60's. I will keep you updated on the place but other people recommend me to go there and I am impressed so far.

I attended a tech session there earlier this year which was sponsered by MBCA. The principles are Ed Owen and Scott Penney and one other partner I didn't meet. They seem sincere in wanting to keep our old cars running as well as working on the newer, more profitable ones too (old cars are notorious for consuming a lot of time which is why lots of shops don't even want to touch them).

They all came out of Hatch and sons so they should know their stuff. It was a nice clean shop too. Good luck on your tranny replacement.

I've got my new Tivo all set! Of course, like you said, there's a good chance it'll never make air but it's a great x-mas present all the same.

Yeah, my car's definitely been there awhile, they had to remove the tank. Send it out to NY and back, get a few odds and ends from germany, then re-install the whole shebang. Old rusty gas sucks! It's funny because I think I have one of the only rust-free unrestored "survivor" fintails in New England aside from the INSIDE of the gas tank. Incidentally, that SL was in there for the same reason.

At any rate, Ed has been keeping me updated every step of the way and the car has been stored indoors during this horrible weather. The salt on the road is so thick here in marina bay that when the snow melts the asphalt is white!

Cooper Classics is always looking for vintage mercedes for film shoots. They advertise here often looking for a candidate if they don't already have a car registered at their site that matches their needs. (They go by color & style of course).

My 250 lang (W123 airport limo) and a 500sel both got bit parts in "The Darjeeling Limited" thx to somebody looking here for some "German cars" here. Their movie star was a bright orange Porsche, so they wanted netural colored fixer-uppers. Too bad the movie sucked.

Speaking of which, we were watching a movie called "Panic" last night with William H. Macy and John Ritter from around the year 2000. Ritter's character, a psychologist, drove a nice grey 280SE or SEL in one scene...nice to see an old W108 put to use and it wasn't even a period piece...just that the character drove an older car is all.
