W108 - 250S - Becker AM FM Radio

I have a Becker radio, and when I first bought the car 3 weeks ago the radio worked fine. Now nothing. Is there a fuse somewhere other than the fuse box I am missing? The fuses in the box all look super. I have a feeling something simple because it did work. Any Suggestions? Thanks.

Hello,

You are most likely correct on your diagnosis. Check in the engine compartment for an auxilary two fuse box. One fuse is for the radio, the other is for the electric antena if you have one. These original ceramic fuses corrode on the end and loose contact. Try twisting the fuse to renew the connection. If this is the problem clean or replace them!

Checked all the fuses. They look great. No corrosion, nothing. cleaned off the terminals and put the fuses back. Is there an inline fuse on this puppy somewhere you can't see?

They may look great, but test them with a multimeter for continuity. Other than that, look for any in-line fuses, or other breaks in the wires.

Radio Inline fuse

The radio fuse for your 108 is in the engine compartment on the passanger side wheel well. It will be a small black plastic box with a button looking screw type knob on the top. the box will hold two fuses as mentioned in an earlier post.

Thanks guys, you are correct. I found the fuses, and the electric window fuses. I monkeyed with the fuses, and sprayed them with electronic cleaner, and the radio, and windows started working again. However, after the stuff dried and I left it overnight, it quit again. Reconnect the wire at the connections?? Can't be the fuses if it works. It's like Christine. The radio just POPS ON......and the WINDOWS WORK....pretty spooky chit. Anyway, I kind of know where it is. Is there some kind of permanant fix for this? Thanks.

This has little short fuses. It isn't the longer fuses that everyone sells. I cannot seem to find the short fuses... Anyone know where I can buy them? Thank you.

I know the fuses you're talking about. Have you tried asking Phil, here at PartsShop, or your local Mercedes dealer?
Meanwhile, if your fuses aren't burned, and the ends aren't worn/corroded through to the insulator, you could try cleaning them, and the fusebox contacts with some fine abrasive or a wirebrush, bending the fusebox spring contact to tighten it's grip, and perhaps applying some silicone paste at the contacts to prevent further corrosion.

If finding those short fuses turns out to be too big a hassle, you could replace the fusebox with one that accomodates more common fuses (either new or from a salvage yard - many '70s - '80s Mercedes & BMWs had auxiliary two-circuit fuseboxes that used normal-size German fuses), or wire in a pair of temporary inline fuse holders.

Happy Motoring, Mark

Just a final note on these fuses. I sanded the small ones and wire brushed the terminals, and put on dielectic grease. .... Now everything works. Radio has no issues. It's the high humidity in Florida that is causing just a slight bit of moisture and ?? to get between the fuses. The grease works. Thanks everyone for your help.
