'73 450 SE (W116) - checking system vacuum?
Hello All,
A quick vacuum testing question, if I may... 1973 450 SE (D-Jet). If I disconnect the vacuum line at the MAP sensor, and leave the other end connected to the engine, should I be able to pull down a vacuum on that line (using the Mityvac)? Thank you, Joe |

That is the vacuum source hose to the MAP. Hose off, the engine probably wont stay running because of a constant vacuum leak. If you mean, engine off, mighty vac hooked to the hose and can you pull a vacuum "NO"

Thanks very much carnut. At least I now know that I can't tell how good the vacuum system is using the method I described . I have been trying to track down a vacuum leak. I replaced the MAP hose, and the connector between the two hard lines on the vacuum advance. I have plugged the connection to the central locking system. I just got some ramps today to get underneath to check the line to the transmission modulator (maybe this weekend). I know it is just a process of elimination. I am hoping the manifold plenum seals are not the problem!
Thanks again, Joe |
