Chain is tight, and the valves look good from the outside. Any other things I should check under the valve cover? thanks

Yeah..bring the cam alignment marks together and see if the damper is at TDC..that is a test for chain stretch..

Is that a link you have lifted up?If it is ,that chain needs changing.
The valve clearance needs doing regularly too.

Yeah, you might as well check your clearances now, all you need is some angled feeler guages, or some really long ones that you can bend. Nice looking carbs. How'd you get them so clean, did you spray paint them or something?

Talking

The chain has no play at all. I'm just pulling on it to see. -- Everything under this 122k mile hood looks good too.
I soaked the carbs in ''gunk'' carb cleaner from advanced auto parts. Was 18 bucks a gallon. Smells like chit, but it works good. Eats all the tarnish and stuff off too. Carbs are coming off again tho. It won't start, and I fouled all my plugs, so it's back to square 1. It will run, eventually

When I dunked mine in the Berryman B9 chemtool bucket they didn't come out as nice as that. I heard that they changed their formula to be more earth-friendly though, so maybe that is why. Perhaps next time I'll try "gunk" brand and see if it makes a difference.

And when you're all done with the valve adjustment, crank 'er over with the sparking bolts removed and make sure every oiling hole on that oil rail next to the cam is dripping. The rail can get clogged and if you have an oiling hole that stops oiling, you burn up whatever it was supposed to lubricate...like the camshaft!
